ORIGIN OF PLAY

The ancient Greeks had no weekend of leisure, they worked all day, except on more than 50 religious holidays and sporting events, where it is the Olympic Games or Olympics. Originally known as Olympic Festival, were part of the four major religious festivals are celebrated across wide-Hélène ancient Greece and was attended by visitors from all city-states that formed the Greek world. The other festivals were the Pythian, The isthmic and Nemeu.
Headquartered in the city of Olympia, in honor of Zeus (supreme god of Greek mythology), the Olympic festival was too old, but it was from 776 to C. (date of the founding of the games) is now making a record of uninterrupted winners. It is known that on the day scheduled for the event, a strong rain collapsed on Olympia, limiting the competition to a race for the stadium. There were thus, the first news of an Olympic champion. It was the cook Coroebus of Elis, winner of the race of 192.27 meters. Some historians, however, believe that the first Olympics have been well done prior to the cook-athlete.
